PXE Boot Case Study

Challenge

A very large financial firm with over 250,000+ systems needed to securely erase every desk and workstation from the mailroom to the international investment banking office.

Solution

Using WipeDrive Enterprise PXE boot server allowed the financial organization to create an environment where all obsolete computers could be shipped. A server and a network switch setup allowed them to wipe 200+ computers at a time. As part of the process, WipeDrive Enterprise ran a diagnostic test which listed the hardware in each machine for inventory controls.

WipeDrive also provided a log file for each piece of hardware, creating a permanent audit trail proving that each drive had been successfully wiped.

Results

The financial organization not only saved money by using WipeDrive Enterprise over the cost of destroying the outdated computers and drives, but they were able to contribute to the communities that they served by donating the still serviceable computers to worthy organizations. They also lowered their environmental footprint by donating and re-using the computers.
